Alessia Orro
Alessia Orro is a prominent Italian volleyball player who has represented her country in various prestigious tournaments, including the women’s events at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the 2019 Montreux Volley Masters, and the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League. She is Olympics champion with Italy in Paris 2024 Games. She has received accolades such as Best Setter in the Italian Serie A1 for the 2022/2023 season, as well as in the Volleyball Nations League 2022 and 2024, Paris 2024 Olympics and the European Championships 2021. Additionally, she was named MVP of the CEV Cup for the 2020/2021 season. Alessia Orro has also earned a bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships, a gold medal at the 2022 and 2024 Volleyball Nations League, and a gold medal at the 2021 European Championships.
Born on July 18, 1998, in Oristano, Italy, Alessia Orro began her volleyball journey in her childhood, honing her abilities during her school years.
Her professional career commenced in 2013 with Club Italia Crai in the Italian Serie B1, where she played for four seasons, advancing to the Italian Serie A2 and A1. Her exceptional skills caught the attention of national coaches, leading to her selection for the Italian junior national teams, where she won gold at the U19 World Championships in 2015 and bronze at the U20 World Championships the same year. In 2015, she was also called up to the senior Italian national team, participating in the World Grand Prix in 2015 and 2017, as well as the Rio 2016 Olympics.
In 2017, Alessia Orro joined Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio, the runner-up in the CEV Cup, to compete in the Italian Serie A1. During her three seasons with the team, she contributed to their victory in the CEV Cup 2018/2019 and secured silver medals in the Italian Cup for the 2019/2020 season, along with bronze medals in the Italian Cup for the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons. With the Italian women’s national team, she also achieved bronze at the European Championships and the Montreux Volley Masters in 2019.
Alessia Orro joined Vero Volley Milano in 2020, where she continues to compete. During her time with the club, she secured the CEV Cup in the 2020/2021 season and earned silver medals in the Italian Serie A1 for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons, in addition to participating in the Champions League. On the international stage, she has enjoyed significant achievements with the national team, including victories at the Volleyball Nations League in 2022 and the European Championships in 2021, along with a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2022. Furthermore, she represented her country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In Season 2022/2023 she earned the silver at the Italian Serie A1 and was the runner-up in the Italian cup with her Vero Volley Milano. She played with Italy in the European Championships 2023, finishing 4th.
In 2023/2024, her team finished 2nd in the Champions League and also third in the Italian Serie A1 and second in the Italian Cup, but she won with Italy the Volleyball Nations League and Paris 2024 Olympics. Next season she continue playing at top level, winning the silver at the Italian Serie A1, as well as the bronze at the Champions League and Club World Championship.
